Kruunuvuori is located in eastern part of Helsinki archipelago, it has a direct view towards the city centre and the Helsinki cathedral. It is an former industrial harbour which will be redeveloped as a new sustainable housing area for more then 10 000 inhabitants. Our task was to design 600 apartments in northern part of this district. We have created a document with detailed architecture and urban design, traffic analysis and concepts for energy systems and eco system services

specification

Sustainable urban development is a broad topic covering a large number of subjects relevant for ecological as well as social and economic sustainability including among other things water and energy management, transport planning, human wellbeing and biodiversity. The masterplan suggest an attractive urban fabric, mixed in both housing typologies and architectural form.
The new residential areas are situated on used land – a brown field formerly used as a oil harbour. Land contamination is taken care of as part of the development.
